I have so much to say Boy do I! But somethings I can't write about as they are much too personal, somethings are too close to home. But I also have lots of questions, and I don't think questions are going to harm anyone, so I will put some forward and would ask for your opinions. Of course I have my own opinions and I'll probably share those as well because after all this is my blog, right?
Okay, here goes.

Is the little mermaid an abomination?

Do you think paintings from famous painters from history, say between the 12-18 century should be censored and all nudity covered?

Do you think it is proper or healthy to show children, say between the ages of 5-18, the graphic photos of abortions?

Should you ever call your children evil, terrible?

Can any of you imagine my take on these issues?

That is all for now.

Your assignment should you decide to take it is:
If you do comment, please leave more then a yes or no and explain your answers.

Thank you, this message with self destruct in 5 seconds.
Comments:
1. The Little Mermaid- no. First of all, it's fiction, not real. Secondly, it is the story of a heart that loved too much and ultimately lost it all. Finally, in the actual story she is given a chance at redemption, though it won't be easy.

2. Censor paintings? No. First of all, they were painted at a time when religion ruled all. If the painters weren't burned at the stake at the time for painting them, I doubt there's much harm in them. But on a more serious level, I am against censorship of art, books, television and movies. If you don't like it, don't look at it. It's just that easy. You've no right to tell anyone else that they can't make that choice for themselves.

3. Show children abortion pictures? Absolutely not. I don't want to look at them as an adult- and as is my right as mentioned in #2 above, I choose not to- and I can't imagine terrorizing children with them. Ironically, it is often those who want to clothe statues and painting who think that showing kids pics of abortions is a good idea. I'm not talking about parents who sensibly control watch their children watch and read, don't misunderstand. I'm talking about extremists, which in my opinion would be someone who would show abortion photos to a child.

4. I don't have any. I've been known to tell my younger siblings they're evil, but only in a joking way so they knew I was just teasing. I would never seriously tell any child that they were evil, or terrible. I don't think much of the person who does.

As you can probably tell though, I don't think much of the person who answers yes to the last 2 above in particular. The person who says yes to the first two, I can kind of understand but I just don't agree with them. The last two, though, I have no use for.

er, #3 should have read

"...control what their children..."

not "watch"

I should have clarified the bit about the Little Mermaid. I should have written Mermaid period. Any mermaid.

Oh. In that case it's not an abomination, it's a myth.

1. Mermaids an Abomination? To whom? To what? I guess my answer is no.

2. I do not believe that nude classical painting should be censored. Now talk about paintings depicting sex then maybe we can talk about censoring but just showing the Nude figure? I think there are too many hangups about nudity that allows the sexual teasing/titilation of Popular culture.

3. I don't believe Abortion pictures should be shown to childern. You need to teach them the concepts first. Otherwise it is just feed for the nightmares.

4. You should never tell childern that they are evil or terrible. You should address their actions as such. What they did may have been Terrible. If they are evil or terrible then they can't change can they? But we can change our actions. (I am a father)

I think fairy tales are a very important part of growing up. All fairy tales have a ring of truth in them. The fun part for me is learning out what that ring of truth is.
